VC the Great is a composer, rapper, beatmaker and a producer. After five years of silence, he released his new album Greatest Rapper Never Found few weeks ago. And the message of the album is loud and clear - VC the Great is here and he´s here to be heard!
It´s almost hard to believe that VC the Great did the whole album by himself - lyrics, rap, beats and mix. Because the quality of the album is just astonishing. Confidence, originality and professionalism on the highest level. Further more, the production quality is just spot on and radio ready right away. How can it be, that VC the Great has only 16 monthly listeners on Spotify? (Yes, 16, no zeros missing...) Listen to the album Greatest Rapper Never Found by VC the Great:
VC the Great is from Gary, Indiana and he´s been into music for more than 20 years now. He started his own label called Kremlin records KGB (Keep Getting Better) and music is his passion. As he said: "If the good Lord allows me to live to a 100 I will always make beats, lyrics, songs...because that is what's inside of me that's what I was created for."
Read more about this rising artist in an honest interview. You will find how he got into music, what are his influences or how he was given Ludacris direct phone number, but never called him... VC the GreatWhat music have you been listening to lately?
Not to sound cocky but there are very few artists that I like these days... Everything is so simple and repetitive. It all sounds the same. But when I'm driving, I play me - I always have, always will. I would rather hear me than any of the garbage that's getting mainstream play.
What got you into music?
I got into music because I hated everything that was being played mainstream. Every car I've ever had since 14 years old had great sounds in it and I wanted to be able to play something that other people didn't have and couldn't play. And there were always beats and rhymes just twirling around in my head I had to find a way to get them out. I borrowed my Uncle's 4 track, keyboard, and his drum machine and I made a 17 song album in 3 months all by myself n still have it.
How hard is it to get some attention as an artist?
I really don't care about attention... Either you listen to it or you don't... You like it or you don't... I don't care. If I never make a nickel that's not why I make music. I make music just because I like to have something different. I march to the beat of my own drum... I do not follow the masses, not a follower. They do what they do, I do what I do. I just do it a little different.
According to Spotify, you released three singles in 2016/17 and now, 5 years later the whole album. What made you do it?
I felt it was selfish of me to hold back an album that the world needs to hear. A good friend of mine came over one day and we chilled, toked, and he convinced me that it's really terrible to sit on so much good music and be selfish and not share it with the world. I've got enough music made to drop an album every day for the next couple of months so I'm gonna start sharing with the world. I'm sure they want good music to thump in their car when they ride around so they should have exactly that and that's what I'm gonna give em. Put thought into your rhymes... Rappers are lazy these days.
You really made everything by yourself in the Greatest Rapper Never Found?
Everything... I could have mastered as well but i did have the legendary Slavic master it... he's the best!
Listen to our PlaylistSubs - Rap/Hip Hop/R´n´B Spotify Playlist:Dogs or cats?
My dog is my love.... Faithful and true, always got my back.
What is your favourite book?
I love everything written by Dean Koontz and Patricia Cornwell. Those are my 2 favorite writers.
What is your favourite movie/TV show?
Favorite TV show would have to be Chicago PD...I just love it...
Who would you like to meet in person and why?
Now that is a tough question. I would have to say... It's a pretty close tie between Barack Obama and Denzel Washington. Obama because, of course, he was the 1st black president and he did me proud. I'm very happy with the way he carries himself, he has class, he knows how to articulate and that's the way. I'm a classy guy that knows how to articulate... I definitely know how to treat a woman, I'm a gentleman that knows a good catch and when to just grab a bottle of Courvoisier, take a home and tap that ass.
What human qualities do you value the most?
I was raised by women... My mom and my aunts. So I learned how to respect women and how to treat them and I really don't like playing Mr. Bad guy - just to take a girl out to lay her... I'd like to get to know her and treat her to the time of her life, showing her what real men are capable of.
Listen to the title track of the album Greatest Rapper Never Found - VC the Great:Do you have some music-related accomplishments?
What was the happiest moment in your life
It's odd because I never really liked to perform in front of people but in an apartment I lived in, I had a room full of 20 people that I just freestyled for well over an hour. They wouldn't let me stop and I couldn't stop.... And they were captivated by my every word, whether there was a beat or whether there was none. I can kill it acapella, I can kill it with a track... Take your pick.
What annoys you the most?
I hate thieves!! I would rather be hanging out with a murderer than with a thief. With a murderer you know what to expect, with a thief you never know when it's coming, but he's going to take your shit. I just feel like if you want something, work for it. Don't take it from someone else that works hard for theirs. That's why I pack the steel always and legally... You're not taking shit from me!!
Do you have some bad experience with thieves personally?
Yes. Someone released a few songs in Europe without my permission after a recording session at his studio, made 50k and gave me nothing. Slick girlfriends have stolen cash amongst other things which is how the song "Claimjumpers" came about.
What would you like to say to your fans?
I have given you a piece of my life. If you listen to the album, I'm telling you the story of my life. I've lived it, been there, done that. So there's nothing that you can teach about streets, drug game, women, love, sex... But I like to keep providing the world with music to enjoy. I'm street savvy, I got a college degree, I got a great job... I don't need anything. I just want to share my music with the world. Give them something to think about and bob their heads to.
